About Us
Alaina’s Army was founded in memory of Alaina Dildine, a vibrant and loving teenager whose life was tragically cut short due to a preventable drowning during her physical education class. Alaina had a known history of epilepsy, and her family had a care plan in place since elementary school to ensure her safety. Despite this, negligence and a lack of adequate safeguards led to her passing on May 16, 2022.
In the months leading up to the tragedy, Alaina experienced frequent seizures, including during swim class. Her family repeatedly voiced concerns to school staff, requesting alternative participation methods to protect her. They even offered solutions, such as written assignments, to ensure Alaina could earn credit without compromising her safety. Unfortunately, these pleas went unanswered.
On the day of her death, Alaina suffered a seizure in the pool, leading to her untimely passing. The Johnson County coroner ruled that her drowning was the result of a seizure.
Alaina’s story is a heartbreaking reminder of the need for greater epilepsy awareness, stronger advocacy for student safety, and accountability within schools. Her legacy lives on through Alaina’s Army, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising epilepsy awareness, advocating for better safety measures, and providing support to individuals and families impacted by epilepsy.
Together, we can honor Alaina’s memory by creating a safer world for all.
